Although I have been staying in the West of Singapore for more than 20 years and I have been to JCube many times, I have never really taken the time to really explore JCube, so today I went to JCube and I realised that the second level of JCube is just like a mini Bugis Street and Fast East Shopping Mall with many small shops selling all the trendiest clothes and accessories.
I have also realised that the second floor of JCube also houses quite a few interesting restaurants, hidden among the clothing shops.
Let’s check out Itacho Sushi X Jika Udon.
Salmon is my favourite among all the kinds of seafood and Roasted Salmon with Cod Fish Caviar also happens to be one of the signature sushi at Itacho Sushi. The flamed salmon melted in my mouth while the codfish caviar added a note of luxury to it.
Itacho Sushi is having a Blue Fin Tuna promotion where all the bluefin tuna sashimi and sushi are being sold at half price, so I ordered a piece of Blue Fin Fatty Tuna with Tendon. The bluefin tuna is really fresh and it literally tastes as if a piece of butter just melted right in my mouth.
Hot and cold Jika Udon is available in over 30 variations paired with different side dishes. This one I have here is Udon with Assorted Tempura in Soup. The clear daikon (radish) soup is clear and flavourful and the udon is chewy and of the right texture.
I am not too happy with the tempuras. They are much too oily and the prawn tempura has clearly been soaked in baking soda because all I can taste is the bitterness of the baking soda.
There is currently a promotion going on where Kochi Japanese sake and Kochi ice-cream are available at 40% and 32% off respectively. The Kochi ice-cream are available in 5 flavours: Sencha Green Tea Ice-Cream, Japanese Yuzu Ice-Cream, Japanese Egg Vanilla Ice-Cream, Sea Salt Gelato and Japanese Chestnut Ice-Cream. I really wanted to try the Japanese Egg Vanilla flavour, but the only favour that was available was Japanese Yuzu Sorbet which was refreshing but a little too sweet for my taste.
Itacho Sushi X Jika Udon is a great little restaurant hidden on the second floor of JCube where you can have fresh sushi and slurp-worthy udon all in one place. This is the perfect place for lunch or dinner after a day of shopping in JCube.
