Mayim Chinese Cuisine

Mayim Chinese Cuisine has always been a part of my childhood memory. Everytime I visit Westmall, I would pass by Mayim Chinese Cuisine. Many restaurants have come and go, but Mayim Chinese Cuisine was there to stay. I have often wondered how the food will taste like, and I am going to find out today.

Special Home Made Cabbage is the restaurant’s version of the Korean kimchi, but it is way too sweet. It tasted more like the popular snack ubi bersira peda (spicy sweet tapioca chips).

Shanghai “Xiao Long Bao” comes encased in small aluminum cups which makes it very easy to pick them up and the dumplings themselves are not too bad with a good broth that is fragrant.

Deep Fried Onions Pastry with Bacon & Shredded Turnip turned out to be a disappointment. I thought the presence of shredded turnip should give this dish a refreshing taste, but the oiliness has overpowered everything else.

Roasted Pork “La Mian” is a mixture of good and bad. The noodles are a little soggy but the roasted pork is crunchy.

Pork & Vegetable Wonton “La Mian” is perfect if you want sometime healthier. The noodles are a little soggy but the pork and vegetate wantons are quite tasty.

‘La Mian” (With Special Meat Sauce) is the restaurant’s version of the classic Chinese noodle zha jiang mian, also known as jajangmyeon in Korea. However, there are only a few specks of minced pork which is not even fragrant. The noodles are a little soggy.
To tell you the truth, I am rather disappointed. Mayim Chinese Cuisine looks so impressive on the outside that I kind of assumed that the food should be really good, but I found the food just average. Mayim Chinese Cuisine is more of a Cantonese restaurant where the food is oilier and more salty which takes a bit of getting used to. Being one of the only Chinese restaurant is probably one of the reasons why the restaurant managed to survive for so many years.
