Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza)

Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza)

White Bee Hoon is a popular dish in Singapore and many stalls have opened up over the years selling this noodle dish. One of the most well-known is Sembawang White Bee Hoon.

I remember seeing the flagship Sembawang White Bee Hoon restaurant at Jalan Tamping when I was in the area to have dinner at Traditional Sembawang Claypot Rice with my colleagues and I decided that I will come back to try the famous Sembawang White Bee Hoon one day.

Sembawang White Bee Hoon has been renamed White Restaurant to distinguish it from the rest of white bee hoon sold elsewhere.

It was a Wednesday when my colleagues and I decided to have dinner at Sembawang White Bee Hoon and the Jalan Tamping outlet is closed on Wednesdays so we went to the outlet at Sun Plaza instead.
Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza) - The Original White Beehoon

This is the famous The Original White Beehoon [$6 for Small, $10 for Medium, $15 for Large]. White bee hoon (which is also known as vermicelli) is cooked in a light seafood and chicken broth together with eggs, vegetables and seafood such as prawns and squid. I suspect that it has been cooked a little too long because the bee hoon in our plate came in one whole clump with almost no broth. There is also the deluxe version Crab White Beehoon.
Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza) - Signature Meat and Seafood Roll
Signature Meat and Seafood Roll [$10 for Small, $15 for Medium, $20 for Large] reminds me of Keng Eng Kee’s MingZhu Roll, but this one is done in ngoh hiang style. I personally would have liked it more if the meat and seafood can be less minced so that there is more bite to it.
Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza) - Salted Egg Sotong

Salted Egg Sotong [$12 for Small, $18 for Medium, $24 for Large] is another one of the “must-order” dishes in this restaurant as advised by the helpful staff. I like the salted egg coating but the sotong (squid) inside is a tad dry.
Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza) - Signature Fried Mid Wings
Signature Fried Mid Wings [$8 for Small, $12 for Medium, $18 for Large] looks good with a crispy coat, but the meat inside is rather dry.
Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Sun Plaza) - Sambal Sweet Potato Leaves

Sambal Sweet Potato Leaves [$8 for Small, $12 for Medium, $16 for Large] is another signature dish at White Restaurant. The sweet potato leaves are fresh and the sambal chilli gives the dish a nice spicy kick.

I am not very impressed with White Restaurant’s food. The zi char dishes can only be described as “normal” at best and even the signature White Beehoon was disappointing.

I hope that the food at the flagship restaurant at Jalan Tampang will be better.
