It’s impossible to miss Hongdae Oppa, it is located right next to the escalator at basement 2 of Plaza Singapore.
Following the wisdom “long queue = good food”, I decided to brave the long queue and try out this new Korean restaurant.
Hongdae Oppa offers hot plate sizzlers, fried chicken, ramyeon, jjigae, tteokbokki, hot stone jjigae, side dishes and drinks.
What is a Korean meal without Korean fried chicken?
You can get either 3 pieces [S$10.90], half chicken (6 pieces) [S$18.90] or whole chicken (10 pieces) [S$29.90].
Chi-Maek (4 pieces fried chicken + 2 hite (330ml) [S$25.90] is perfect for night out with friends.
Oppa’s Chix is available in 4 flavors – gochujang, original, spicy and soy garlic.
The other flavors are too ordinary, so I ordered the gochujang flavor, (which happens to be their signature flavor). The chicken is tender and the skin is perfectly crispy. Gochujang is sweet and spicy, but it can get a little after a few pieces.
I find it a little strange to find clams in Beef Bean Paste Jjigae [S$13.90] but the stew is flavorful. There are enoki mushroom, clams, tofu and US beef slices in the soy-bean paste broth.
All in all, I think Hongdae Oppa is a casual little Korean restaurant that offers popular Korean dishes.
