Lanzhou beef noodles is one of the most iconic dishes of Lanzhou, China. MAZILU Lanzhou Beef Noodles is the most famous Lanzhou beef noodle restaurant with hundreds of outlets all over China.
Established in 1954, Ma Zi Lu Beef Noodles has been perfecting the traditional recipe for more than 50 years.
Ma Zi Lu Beef Noodles has won numerous awards in China, such as “Top 10 Lanzhou Beef Noodles Restaurant” and “2018 Most Popular Noodle Restaurant”. Ma Zi Lu is also one of the “Famous Trademark of Gansu Province”.
This famous beef noodle has finally come to Singapore in July 2019. Located at basement 2 of Orchard Gateway, the small shop space is brightly-lit and spacious.
The restaurant is very new so there is not much items on the menu. More items will be slowly added into the menu.
This is the Signature Beef Noodles [S$12.90 for Large, S$10.90 for Small]. You can choose between spicy and no -spicy and since I don’t take spicy food, I opted for non-spicy. I am not sure if it is due to the lack of the fiery-red chilli oil, but I find the broth rather plain. I can’t really taste the beefiness in the soup. The noodles, however, are very well-done. These noodles are easily the best handmade noodles I have had in a long time. The noodles chewy and does not break easily. The quality of the beef slices is not very consistent. The beef was hard the first time I was there, but very soft and tender on my second visit.
There are 8 types of noodles to choose from and I normally choose Two Fine or Three Fine, which also happen to be the most popular options.
There is also plain Noodles [S$9.90 for Large, S$7.90 for Small] which is just soup and noodles without sliced beef.
Sauerkraut Beef Noodles [S$12.90 for Large, S$10.90 for Small] is almost identical to Signature Beef Noodles. The addition of sauerkraut does little to enhance the taste of the bland soup.
You can also order Vegetarian Noodle (Dry) [S$9.90], Dry Beef Noodles [S$11.90] and Dry Chicken Noodles [S$11.90].
Ma Zi Lu Beef Noodles is currently running an opening promotion where you get a free side dish when you order any noodle dish. The side dishes are usually wood ear mushrooms salad, cucumber salad, sliced beef or French beans salad. The side dishes normally cost S$2 per serving.
