Assembly Coffee is part of the third wave coffee movement and it has been around for more than a year now. It has becomes hugely popular for their buttermilk waffles which are supposed to be one of the best waffles in Singapore and their speciality coffee.
It is easy to miss this tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurant but the navy blue and white stripped canopy might make it slightly easier to spot.
It is a tiny cafe but the simplistic interior design make the place feel cosy and comfortable. Service is fast and efficient and all the staff goes about doing their job with a bounce in their steps and engergy that will brighten up any customer’s mood.
Desserts are freshly-made everyday.
Iced Chocolate is a beautiful mixture of melted chocolate, full cream milk, cocoa powder and topped with a scope of vanilla ice-cream for additional indulgance. When mixed up, it is a delicious drink that is cold and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness to satisfy your sweet-tooth.
Iced Latte is a good option for people like me who are not coffee addicts. I can’t comment if they serve the best coffee, all I know is that the coffee is very fragrant and it blends perfectly with the full cream milk to create a full-bodied drink.
I knew I had to get it the moment I saw l saw Plain Croissant on the menu, because I am totally in love with croissants. I like that they warm up the croissant before serving but the croissant itself is a little hard and not buttery enough.
Egg Mayo Sandwich is the upgraded version of the humble snack I used to love as a kid. Chunks of boiled eggs are mixed with mayonnaise and sandwiched between two slices of bread that has been toasted till a rich golden brown colour. Nothing extravagant, it is comfortable food at its best.
I wonder what B.E.C. Sandwich stands for but it is really just a passing thought because I don’t really care when it tastes this good. Streaky bacon is sandwiched between two pieces of thick toast that has been toasted with melted mature cheddar cheese, served with a sunny side egg and arugula. Eating this can get pretty messy but it is definitely worth it.
Smoked Salmon & Eggs is a classic all day breakfast item with soft scrambled eggs and smoked salmon served on thick toast, decorated with a garden salad. The scrambled eggs are just a little too watery for my liking, otherwise everything else is perfect.
No visit to Assembly Coffee is complete without trying their famous buttermilk waffles. I am crazy over anything that says salted caramel, I ordered Salted Caramel Buttermilk Waffles. The waffles are crispy and they go perfectly with the vanilla ice-cream and caramel sauce. My only complain is the waffles are too airy and light, they don’t pack the richness to make me fall in love with it.
If you have never been to Assembly Coffee, I suggest that you give it a try and enjoy a lazy afternoon with friends over cups of coffee.
