[Closed] Bottura

Massimo Bottura is the man behind three-Michelin-star restaurant Osteria Francescana, which has been listed in the top 5 at The World’s Best 50 Restaurants since 2010. 

Bottura, a name synonymous with authentic Italian cooking back by generations worth of culinary experience, has come to Singapore in the form of a three-in-one dining establishment in Suntec City Mall complete with a cafe-lounge and a retail section stocked with dry goods imported from Italy. 

Pizza con Tartufo: pate di tartufo mozzarella has only two ingredients: truffle pate and mozzarella. I fell in love with its delicious aroma when it arrived at my table. It is a thin-crust pizza of just two ingredients yet it tastes better than any of the pizzas I have tasted. The waitress told me that the pizzas are baked in a low oven with rotating base, making the crust extra crispy. 

I Dolci Secondo Bottura: La Deguszione is dolci degustation of 4 desserts. I was served (left to right) two cream puffs, creme brûlée and panna cotta. The puffs are filled with coffee cream and they are really quite unremarkable. Creme Brûlée was a totally letdown. There is no caramelization of the top, it is instead topped with caramel syrup that is way too sweet. The custard itself is rather rubbery and does not have the creaminess that I enjoy so much. The Panna Cotta served here is very different from the ones I have had so far. It is much denser and rather rubbery, topped with raspberry sauce that is so sweet it pretty much covers any taste of the panna cotta. 

I didn’t have time to try the cakes, but they look so damn good! 

I have not eaten enough to reach a conclusion about the food, but I am truly disappointed with the deserts. I really hope that I am just plainly unlucky to catch the chef on a bad day. On a brighter note, they do have sell a lot of interesting ice-creams which should be explore worthy.

It might be a good idea to take a look through the menu filled with unpronounceable Italian words before heading down to the restaurant.
