I discovered Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant and Bar when I was eating at Fortuna Italian Restaurant which is located just next door.
I’ve not have had Swiss food in Singapore, I was very interested in trying out this restaurant that claims to serve authentic Swiss food.
The inside of Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant and Bar is cosy with warm lights and Swiss cuckoo clocks on the wall.
The Food
I have never heard of a malakoff but it’s apparently a Swiss speciality from small villages in picturesque “La Cote” region. One Cheese Dome [S$12] is literally one single ball of deep-fried Gruyere cheese. It’s pretty expensive for just one ball of cheese, no matter how melty the centre is.
Cheese fondue is the most iconic of Swiss cuisine. Coucou Authentic Swiss Restaurant & Bar offers 7 variations of cheese fondu. Fondue-Moitie-Moitie [S$38/person] is the original Swiss recipe, which combines gruyere and Swiss cheese for a creamy mixture. The fondue comes with a bowl of bread pieces which is replenishable.
Rosti is another iconic Swiss dish, this restaurant serves 5 variations. The most basic version is Le Classique [S$16] with a dollop of sour cream. I got Rosti et Saucisse de Veau [S$28] which comes with a grilled veal sausage. The rosti is crispy around the edges but soft on the inside.
Medaillon de Cerf aux Figues [S$48] is one of the winter delights menu. I’ve never tried deer striploin and it tastes pretty similar to beef with a slightly more gamey flavor.
There’s too much whipped cream in Meringues à la Double Crème de Gruyère [S$20] but the lingonberries and strawberries balances out the creaminess.
