If you like to dine at restaurants with elegant interiors such as Sospiri, Jiak Kim House will not disappoint.
Located in a restored 1920s heritage warehouse along the Singapore River, the interior is an eccentric mix of elegance and nostalgia. I especially like the steel truss structure that supports the roof which reminds me of Bukit Timah Truss Bridge.
The Food
Besides the a la carte menu, Jiak Kim House also offers a 3-course menu at S$65++ per person perfect for those of us who cannot make up our minds.
Appetizers
The most interesting appetizer has to be the Tingkat of Memories where you get you get 4 fusion Asian bites. The bites themselves are fun bite-size but it comes in two layers of wooden tingkat box which brings up the aesthetics.
Amela Tomato Salad is presented with calamansi gel covering 4 wedges of tomatoes seasoned with shiso and soy ponzu.
Mains
The Kam Heong Sambal Grouper is so tender and it goes well with the black pepper sambal sauce, cilantro rice and mangosteen salsa.
If you are a meat lover, you will probably enjoy Beef Tongue-To-Tail. You get a small piece of rendang short ribs, braised oxtail and torched tongue alongside domino potato and rojak salad.
Dessert
Ondeh Ondeh Tiramisu is pretty ingenious, by fusing nonya ondeh ondeh with Italian tiramisu. The cake is light and delicate, with a touch of palm sugar sweetness.
Garden of Naomi looks really pretty with raspberry lychee rose entremet surrounded by flavored ice.
