I have recently tried the Sembawang White Bee Hoon at the Sun Plaza outlet and I was not very impressed with the food there, so I decided to visit the flagship restaurant at Jalan Tamping to see if the standard of food will be better there.
Sembawang White Bee Hoon (Jalan Tampang) is housed in You Huak Restaurant. It can get pretty crowded especially on weekends, so do try to arrive early.
I ordered most of the same dishes that were ordered at the Sun Plaza outlet to compare the food quality.
White Beehoon [$5 for Small, $9 for Medium, $13 for Large] is slightly cheaper there than the outlet at Sun Plaza. The ingredients are still as fresh and I like that there is more broth.
Salted Egg Yolk Sotong [$12 for Small, $18 for Medium, $24 for Large] has the same crunchy salted egg coating that I enjoy very much and the sotong inside is much more tender than the Salted Egg Sotong I had at the Sun Plaza outlet.
Signature Fried Mid Wings [$8 for Small, $12 for Medium, $18 for Large] is actually not listed in the menu at Jalan Tamping but you can still order it. There is not much difference between the two outlets for this dish, I still find the chicken meat dry.
Baby Kailan [$8 for Small, $12 for Medium, $16 for Large] is the only item that is different from what was ordered at the Sun Plaza outlet. I like that the kailan is thoroughly cooked yet retains its crispness.
I personally feel it is not much different in good quality between the Sun Plaza outlet and the flagship restaurant at Jalan Tamping.
Please visit White Restaurant’s website for addresses, telephone numbers and opening hours of all 3 outlets in Jalan Tampang, Sun Plaza and Punggol.
