Last week I joined a Geylang walking tour which ended with dinner at 126 Dim Sum Wen Dao Shi 揾到食. Another addition to my dim sum list.
This humble dim sum place started off serving dim sum in 126 Sims Avenue in 1985, hence its name. The Boon Keng outlet at 1086 Serangoon Road was opened in 2012.
Interior
It’s an old restaurant with steamers and oven at the entrance to maximise the seating capacity inside.
There are long and short tables to cater to different groups of people. There is air-conditioning which makes the dining experience more enjoyable.
The Food
The menu comes in a green clear folder with pages filled with pictures of every type of dim sum they sell. There are over 300 fried and steamed dim sum varieties to choose from, there is something for everyone. You can also view their menu from their website (without prices).
The food are served on white and pink plates, reminiscent of 90’s old-school coffeeshops.
This is the humble Siew Mai 烧卖 [S$4.50], the most classic of dim sum. There is also the premium Scallop Siew Mai 带子烧卖 [S$7] but the addition of scallop doesn’t make much of a difference.
My favourite is this Extra Flow “Liu Sha Bao” 特流 – 流沙包 [S$5.30]. The bar is so soft and fluffy and the custard inside is indeed very flowy.
Fried Banana with Mango Roll 金蕉香芸卷 [S$5.50] is also highly-recommended. The banana and mango pairs perfectly with the crispy exterior, creating a sweet and crunchy contrast.
