DanielFoodDiary (The Best Salted Egg Croissant In Singapore Is … Yes, We Tried All 5 Of Them), one of Singapore’s most prestigious food blogger, ranks this as the best salted egg croissant in Singapore. That’s right, we are talking about Antoinette’s Salted Yolk Lava Croissant.
Let’s go and find out if Antoinette’s Salted Yolk Lava Croissant is really as good as everyone makes it out to be.
Antoinette’s Salted Yolk Lava Croissant is supposed to be the best salted egg croissant in Singapore, but I have to say I am not impressed. The croissants are super crispy having been heated up in an oven before being served, but it lacks the buttery taste of a good croissant. The salted egg filling is really thick, it does not really have the lava consistency of a good salted egg filling. The grainy texture of salted egg is there but the contrast between the savory and sweet is kind of muffled.
If salted egg is not your thing, you there is Chili Crab Croissant for you. Still the same flaky and lacking-in-butter croissant, filled with specially concocted spice paste that is mildly spicy. You definitely can taste the shreds of real crab meat but I personally find the filling not creamy enough. That being said, I am loving the idea behind infusing Singapore local cuisine with traditional French techniques to create a masterpiece. Do note that the Salted Yolk Lava Croissant is sold out pretty fast due to limited quantity everyday, try to reach before 2pm.
In my humble opinion, Antoinette’s Salted Yolk Lava Croissant is not really as good as it is hyped up to be. Chilli Crab Croissant is an interesting fusion of East and West but sadly still lacking a little “oomph”.
