Cafe Iguana was founded in 2000 by two Americans, Devin Otto Kimble and Chilean Daniel Flores who felt that Singapore need a good Mexican restaurant. Cafe Iguana is run by the same people behind Brewerkz.
I was on my way to attend a talk at Riverside Point and I wanted to have dinner first because the talk was scheduled to end at 10pm, which is much too late for dinner.
Located along the Singapore River, Cafe Iguana is an assembly of colorful chairs, olive green tables and a fully-stocked bar counter.
I have managed to take pictures of the menu, but you can also find the menu on their website.
The Quesadillas, although a little expensive, are very well-done. The original quesadilla only comes with cheese, but I topped-up for additional chicken, and boy did I do the right thing. The tender chicken pieces are held together by melted cheese, enveloped in flour tortilla that has been cooked till slightly charred. It is fantastic when eaten together with the salsa that accompanies the dish.
Churros is a Spanish snack, so I was a little surprised to find it in a Mexican restaurant. Intrigued, I ordered one to try. The star-shaped choux pastry is sprinkled with sweet cinnamon and served with a scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream and chocolate sauce. Decorated with raspberry and blueberries, it looks appetizing, but underdelivers in terms of tastes. Even though sprinkled with sweet cinnamon sugar, the churros sticks taste rather blend. The vanilla bean ice-cream does not have the creaminess of premium ice-cream and does absolutely nothing to elevate the taste of this desert.
Cafe Iguana’s margarita is one of their speciality, made with hand-squeezed lime juice and some of the world’s best tequila. The 50% off all magaritas during happy hour sounds like a pretty good deal.
Stocked with over 100 labels of agave tequila and mezcal, exclusive “Mexican-style” beer Iguna Lager brewed by Brewerkz which is only available at Cafe Iguana, Cafe Iguana’s signature magaritas and a menu that promises authentic Mexican food, Cafe Iguana is the perfect place for chilling out with friends with good food, good drinks and a river view.
Oh, Cafe Iguana does sponsorship, so if you want to have tequila at your next event, do drop them an email!
