Guksu Restaurant: Jjajang Meon and Cheese Bak Dul Platter

Time flies, it has been more than 2 years since I last visited Guksu Noodle House in December 2014.
Guksu Restaurant has recently revamped its menu and many new items have been added. My colleagues have been telling me that Guksu Noodle House now serves jajangmyeon and it is super good. My colleagues and I are going to have lunch at Guksu Noodle House to try their jajangmyeon and Cheese Buk Dal which I saw on Suntec City’s “Flavors to Savor” food guide.

This is the Jjajang Meon (which is more commonly spelt as “jajangmyeon“) that my colleagues have been raving about. It is a popular Korean dish that has been featured in many Korean dramas and Running Man and everyone eats it as if it is the most amazing food in the world. It is essentially the Korean version of the classic Chinese noodle dish Zha Jiang Mian. In the Korean version, the thick black bean sauce is made with chunjang (black bean sauce), diced pork and vegetables. Guksu Noodle House’s handmade noodles are thicker than the traditional Chinese noodles and the chewy texture of the noodles goes well with the black bean sauce.

This is the Cheese Bul Dak Platter that I read about in Suntec City’s “Flavors to Savor” food guide. “Buk Dal” means “fire chicken” in Korean and this heavily spiced chicken is deboned and served with creamy mozzarella cheese, sweet corn scrambled eggs and rice cakes on a heated hot plate. The creamy mozzarella cheese goes well with the sweet and spicy chicken. This is really quite spicy, definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Guksu Noodle House offers many different Lunch Sets, from Mini Jeongol, Mini Hotpot and Hanguk Mini Platter to Noodle & Chicken Lunch Set, Noodle & Mandu Lunch Set and Korean Chicken Baskets (Lunch Set).

Mini Duk Bok Um Tang is one of the items on offer during lunch period. Featuring chicken broth with Korean spicy sauce, chicken meat and vegetables, this mini version of the Duk Bok Um Tang is the mini jeongol for the chicken-lovers. There is also Mini Gamja Tang for those who prefer pork, Mini Haemul Jjim Dak for the vegetarians and health-conscious and Mini Budae Jjigae for those who want a taste of the traditional Korean beef stew.

Mandu is the Korean version of the Chinese dumplings.  Kimchi Mandu is stuffed with a generous amount of pork and kimchi in place of vegetable.

There is a small retail section that sells popular Korean snacks such as Honey Butter Almonds, Green Tea Milk Spread and Korean Noguri Ramen.
Guksu Noodle House’s new menu features many new items such as Haemul Jjim Dak and Yeon Pyo Tang which are what I am going to have on my next visit.
Although Guksu Noodle House and Kimchi Restaurant are allegedly opened by the same person, the quality and variety of food at Guksu Noodle House are definitely much better than Kimchi Korean Restaurant
