I am so honoured to be invited to the opening of Hattendo Cafe’s very first outlet in Singapore.
Hattendo was established in 1933 in Hiroshima by Kauro Morimitsu as a confectionery shop. It has since expanded into an 18-outlet operation with outlets in Korea, Philippines, Taiwan and it has finally arrived in Singapore.
The star of Hattendo Cafe is its one-of-a-kind Cream Bun which is a hybrid of bread and cake. All steps from bread-making, cream preparation for wrapping are all done by hand to ensure consistent great taste. There are 5 flavours to choose from Whipped Cream, Custard, Matcha, Adzuki Beans and Chocolate. The bun is soft and fluffy and the filling inside is pillowy-light and creamy. The flavours do not overpower the richness of the cream filling and they taste heavenly when served chilled. My favourite flavour is Whipped Cream, what is your favourite flavour?
Besides Cream Buns, Hattendo Cafe also serves fresh and tasty Jar Salad with bun crouton in 3 flavours available, served from a cereal dispenser.
Hattendo Cafe serves coffee using a special blend created by Itsuki Coffee, a speciality coffee shop on Miyajima Island in Hiroshima Prefecture. The roasted coffee beans are transported to Singapore by air to maintain freshness. The coffee is very smooth and fragrant aroma, even non-coffee drinker like me finished a cup of Latte without having to add any sugar. The coffee goes well with their signature Cream Bun.
Creams Buns are available for takeaway too, where they will be placed in a beautiful cardboard box with a small ice pack to ensure the freshness of the buns.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the products, the ambience is relaxed and the Cream Buns are reasonably-priced at $2.50 a piece. This cafe is the perfect place to relax and have a delicious snack after a hard day at work. Hattendo Cafe is officially open today. Do come down and experience “Hattendo Homemade Happiness”.
