Hello Kitty Orchid Garden

I don’t know about you, but whenever I think about Hello Kitty, I remember the crazy days when thousands of people would queue outside McDonald’s to buy the Hello Kitty stuffed toys. There were incidents of fights and people being trampled, such were the charms of this popular Sanrio character.
When Hello Kitty Orchid Garden first opened in Singapore, it created quite a stir and everybody was flocking to the Hello Kitty theme cafe, but its far-flung location at Changi Airport Terminal 3 is too out of the way for me and I finally got to try out this theme cafe when I was running an errand at Changi Airport.

I love the white metal fence that surrounds the themed cafe that gives the place, which goes gives the “secret hideout away from the hustle and bustle of city life” feel that the cafe is aiming for. The

The main dining area of the cafe is decorated with lush greenery and opulent flowers that reminds me of the grand gardens of the olden times, complete with Hello Kitty design chairs and white oval cocoon hanging chairs. There is even a bench at the back of the cafe where you can take the perfect selfie with Hello Kitty herself.

For starters, I had the Seafood Chowder Lagoon which tastes like a very diluted version of Campbell Soup. It’s supposed to be a seafood soup, but I don’t taste any seafood in it at all. The garlic toast is hard and stiff.

I was there during dinner time and I wanted to have something light, so I ordered this Kitty Goes Fishing where a red sea barramundi fillet is coated with macadamia nut crust and baked till a nice golden brown colour. While I love the uniqueness of the macadamia nut crust, I think it is a little too crunchy to be paired with the tender fish fillet, but the homemade mango salsa is a nice touch.

Banana Forest is so artistically decorated, I almost couldn’t bring myself to eat it. Bananas are wrapped in special pastry skin and baked to perfection. Paired with chocolate soil, creamy vanilla gelato, fresh juicy berries and homemade vanilla sauce, this dessert platter is not only an eye-candy, it is healthy too.

Just beside the cashier, there is a small retail store where you can get stuffed toys, notebooks and cookies with your favourite Hello Kitty design.
The Hello Kitty cafe is a great place to celebrate anniversary and birthdays with girlfriends or wife (or secret lover) who are Hello Kitty fans, as long as you don’t have too high an expectation of their food. The only good thing about this cafe is that it is open 24 hours so you can go Hello Kitty crazy anytime you want.
