HillV2 is a new shopping mall that has just been completed last year. Nestled in Hillview Avenue which is in the Bukit Batok area, its secluded location gives the shopping mall an “atas” feel, catering mostly to families living in the prime locale of Upper Bukit Timah. It features an up-scale supermarket Hillview Market Place, various lifestyle shops and 21 restaurants.
Joyden is located in a corner on the second level of the shopping mall. Its slightly secluded location does not stop foodies from flocking to this highly-raved restaurant.
When I think of Cantonese food, the first thing that comes to mind is dim sum and that is what we will be having today.
Lean Pork and Century Egg Congee 皮蛋廋肉粥 is a very classic Cantonese dish. Like all Cantonese congee, the rice is boiled until the grains have almost melted into a delicious mesh, but what makes this congee stand out is the perfect consistency. Add in pieces of pork, century eggs and shredded scallop, it is a congee that remind me of home.
Signature Steamed Shrimp Siew Mai with Crab Roe 蟹黄烧卖仔 is the premium version of the humble siew mai. Made with seasoned ground pork, chopped shrimp, Chinese black mushroom, scallions, ginger and Shaoxing wine, Joyden’s version shines from the use of the freshest ingredients.
Steamed Imperial Prawn Dumpling “Har Gao” 水晶虾饺皇 is so good with fresh and plump whole prawns enclosed in a thin and transparent skin.
Steamed Jade Dumpling with Fresh Scallop 翡翠带子饺 is siew mai made luxurious by topping off with a piece of fresh scallop.
Although the dim sums are served in smaller portions, I am more than happy with the quality of the dim sums. I have read fabulous reviews by numerous food bloggers who have recommended a variety of must-try dishes from the ala carte menu, two of which are Joyden Signature Soy Sauce Chicken, Signature Traditional Hakka Salt Poached Farm Chicken.
