When Lucali BYGB first arrived in Singapore, everyone was crazy about this collaboration between New York pizza restaurant Lucali and the BYGB group.
My first encounter with this pizza restaurant was when a colleague bought a huge pizza from them for my farewell party. Even though it was too big and I ended up being half the pizza home, but the taste was impeccable.
I wanted the whole experience so I made plans to visit the restaurant with friends. You actually have to key in your credit card details when making a reservation on their website. For cancellations in less than 24 hours or no show, you will be charged $50! I think this is a bit too much!
Location
Lucali BYGB is housed in Kallang Rivergreen Building, which is a little troublesome to get to. The nearest MRT station is Lavender, you will have to walk another 10-15 minutes to get to the location.
There is a rambling shack of a restaurant on the ground that many mistake for Lucali BYGB. You will need to take the lift to level M which I believe stands for mezzanine.
Decor
Lucali BYGB is nothing I expected. I was expecting chic funky New York-style decor but it is in fact very classy and minimalistic.
The elevator door opens to a huge Lucali BYGB black and white menu. Pull open the thick opaque door curtain and you will be greeted with clean minimalist design. The floors retained the tiled design while thick black tables and cushioned benches run in parallel lines.
This is one of the few places in Singapore that uses candles to light up the place. The warm flicking candlelight makes this the perfect place for dates or Valentine’s Day.
The Food

Every table comes with a bottle of cold still water and cold sparking water. If water is too plain for you, there is a whole row of wines near the entrance to choose from.
For starters, we got The Big Salad [S$25]. It came in a huge plate, piled high with radicchio lettuce, asparagus, salami, provolone cheese, olives and tomatoes. It is fresh and appetizing, the perfect start to any meal.
For main, we got their famous Our Original 18” Pie [S$55]. The price is more eyebrow-raising than the pizza itself.
It is a simple pizza of just buffalo mozzarella, mozzarella, parmesan and basil with optional roasted garlic. I personally find it a little too oily and it gets overwhelming just after 2 slices.
For dessert, we ordered Pie of the Day [S$15] which happened to be Banana Meringue Pie. This dessert pie was the highlight of the meal. The banana pieces inside were so soft, the pie base was perfectly buttered and the meringue tasted amazing.
