Mellben Seafood is renowned for its Claypot Crab Bee Hoon Soup so we ordered a portion with additional soup and bee hoon (it is so popular that additional soup and bee hoon is limited to one portion per table). Now I finally understand why this dish is so popular. The creamy soup has a distinctive crab taste that goes so well with the springy thick bee hoon. It is totally slurp-worthy

I was really looking forward to trying out their famous Salted Egg Crab but we were told that Salted Egg Crab is a dry dish and there is not much sauce, so we decided to get Golden Sand Crab instead. We opted for a male crab, which is said to have more meat but does not have much crab roe. The crab is medium-sized but it is full of sweet crab meat. The sauce is a beautiful yellowish-golden colour that tastes of melted butter made more fragrant by the addition of curry leaves. Fried mantou is the perfect accompaniment.

Prawn Paste Chicken is not featured on the menu, but such a simple zi char dish is not a problem to the skilled chefs at Mellben Seafood. The tender chicken wings and drumlets are well-marinated and coated in batter before deep-fried till beautiful golden colour. The meat is tender and absolutely delicious.

Technically, Sambal Kangkong is not on the menu, but it is such a popular dish that they have it here too. The fresh and crispy kangkong goes perfectly with the sambal which gives it a little spiciness.
Melben Seafood
Mellben Seafood does not disappoint with the quality of its dishes, be it their signature crab dishes or simple zi char dishes, but the prices can be a little steep.
