Located at the basement of The Cathay, Misato is a contemporary chic and casual Japanese dining restaurant. Though it has only been open since May 2015, the exquisite presentation and emphasis on using only the freshest ingredients imported from Japan has garnered many rave reviews.
I was really there to try Misato Onyakodon which is their bestseller but it was sold out so I ordered Ebi Wasabi Donburi which looked equally as promising. Five pieces of succulent prawns is coated with batter and deep-fried till a beautiful golden color and coated with green wasabi-mayonnaise sauce, served with Japanese rice in an elegant lacquer bento box. The prawns are definitely cooked upon order but the lukewarm Japanese rice doesn’t quite compliment the prawns, I would have preferred that the rice be served steaming hot. This is definitely not for the faint-hearted because they are really generous with the wasabi and you get a strong burning aftertaste. You can dip the prawns in the sauce provided which takes away the burning sensation.
Misato Paw Anmitsu is the restaurant’s signature dessert. Matcha jelly and pieces of strawberry, kiwi and mandarin oranges is topped with a scoop of green tea ice-cream and azuki beans. Kids and adults alike will be won over by the cute design, especially the two paw-shaped rice balls. The jelly is a littke tasteless and the azuki beans could be softer but the fruits are fresh and the self-made matcha ice-cream is the best I have had with a strong flavour that lingers in the mouth.
