Tim Ho Wan (Westgate)

Tim Ho Wan originated from Hong Kong and this hole-in-the-wall eatery has been featured in the world famous Michelin guide.
Tim Ho Wan has finally arrived in Singapore with 5 outlets scattered in the five corners of Singapore.
My first visit to Tim Ho Wan (Westgate) has left me with a very favourable impression, so here I am again, this time with my parents.
Did I remember wrongly or did the menu shrink?

Baked Bun with BBQ Pork 酥皮焗叉烧包 is one of the Big 4 Heavenly Kings, the signature dish that transformed the eatery into a world-renowned dim sum restaurant. The exterior is made of crumbly pastry skin and the inside is filled with barbecued pork that is the perfect balance of sweet and salty.
Deep Fried Fish Fillet with Spicy Fried Garlic 避风塘鱼柳 is one of the Monthly Special. Fresh cod fish is coated in batter and fried till a crispy golden color. Spicy fried garlic sauce gives the otherwise oily dish a kick.

If you are a meat-lover, you should definitely order Beef Ball with Beancurd Skin 陈皮牛肉球. The beef balls are tender and juicy, every bite will fill your mouth with its beefiness.

Braised Chicken Feet with Abalone Sauce 鲍汁焖凤爪 is ordered for the parents because gnawing on meatless bones is really not my thing. The sauce is very nice and the chicken feet has been well-marinated and steamed long enough such that the flavor has been fully absorbed.
Congee with Lean Pork, Salted Egg & Century Egg 金银蛋廋肉粥 has been cooked for many hours till the grains have broken down, giving the congee a smooth texture.

Glutinous Rice with Lotus Leaf 古法糯米鸡, Singaporean know it as lo mai gai. Wrapped in lotus leave, the glutinous rice and chicken absorbs the fragrance of the lotus leave.

Poached Fresh Seasonal Vegetable 白灼清油菜 does not have the bitterness of vegetables. Drizzled with soy sauce, it actually tastes rather sweet, I think even kids will enjoy it.

My photograph doesn’t do justice to Pork Dumpling with Shrimp 鲜虾烧卖皇, the pork filling is juicy and bursting with flavor.

Wrapped in a thin transparent rice skin, the Steamed Spinach Dumpling with Shrimp 鲜虾菠菜饺 is a healthier option for the health-conscious.

I personally feel that Vermicelli Roll with BBQ Pork 蜜味叉烧肠 should be one of the Big 4 Heavenly Kings instead of Vermicelli Roll with Pig’s Liver. The vermicelli roll is of velvety-smooth texture and the bbq pork has the perfect balance of sweet and salty.
Tim Ho Wan has never failed to deliver on its promise to serve delicious dim sum made with only the freshest seasonal ingredients. Way to go, Tim Ho Wan!
