The spot previously occupied by Ananas Cafe in Bukit Gombak MRT station has recently been taken over by Traditional Penang Food and the tiny restaurant is packed with people every day.
Penang Prawn Mee contains yellow noodles and vermicelli in savory prawn broth, topped with prawns, vegetables and half boiled egg. The yellow noodles are a little soggy but the overall taste is not too bad. Stir in the provided chilli for an extra kick.
Penang Chendol comes in a small bowl where crushed ice is topped with coconut milk, evaporated milk, green jelly noodles and boiled red beans. It is not as sweet and rich as I would have liked, but it will have to do.
The food is not fantastic but it’s nice to have something other than run-of-mill Ananas Cafe at economical prices.
