World Food Fair has been running for 14 years but I have never really had the time nor interest to attend. A few days ago, my colleague excitedly showed me a video by Eatbook that showed some really good food such as Lobster Laksa, Cheese-Stuffed Chicken Chop and Frozen Fruit Stick. I was intrigued so I decided to visit the World Food Fair at Singapore Expo Hall 5 which was held from 7-10 September 2017 from 11 am – 10 pm daily.
The event boasted “over 1000 international food treats and food savings” but from what I saw, more than half of the stalls were local merchants such as Zheng Zhong Ping, Fragrance and Bee Ching Hiang.
One of the more interesting stalls was the Foodzbury stall that sold Frozen Fruit Stick. There is a choice of Mon Thong Durian and Nam Dok Mai Mango, but the mango was already sold out by the time it reached my turn, so I got a stick of the Mon Thong Durian [$5]. It is real durian that is frozen with the seed still inside! Every bite filled my mouth with the cold delicious fragrance of durian. This is really good!
The real food street is at the back of the hall where 20+ stalls sell cooked foods from Thailand, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and local Singapore food. Food such as Lobster Laksa and Cheese-Stuffed Chicken Chop as mentioned in Eatbook’s video can be found here. I went crazy and bought a bowl of Thai Shark Fin Soup [$2], something I wouldn’t even buy at Pasar malams.
To be fair, I had a heavy food tasting at Fujiyama Dragon Curry before I went down to World Food Fair 2017 so I didn’t really have an appetite, but I was still disappointed with the measly 20+ stalls that sell cooked food.
I will go to the World Food Fair 2018 with an empty stomach and hopefully, it will not disappoint me again next year.
