Don’t be intimidated by the restaurant’s name Black Society or its black-theme decor.
Despite its name and appearance, Black Society is actually a high-class Chinese restaurant. The white-and-black decor and green ceiling foliage makes this a great place for business meals, family gatherings or dates.
We got a few dim sum from the Dim Sum Collection which is available daily from 11am – 4.45pm.
Chilli Crab Xiao Long Bao 辣椒蟹小笼包 [S$8 for 3 pieces] looks like mini flattened bao with orange skin. It’s a little spicy but tastes great nevertheless.
The Har Gau (Prawn Dumpling) 三色鲜虾饺 [S$7 for 3 pieces] comes in 3 colors – white, red and black. The skin is kind of falling off, but the filling inside comes with 2 full prawn.
It’s amazing how the mango and prawn taste so in sync in Crispy Mango Prawn Salad Roll 脆皮香芒沙律虾卷 [S$7.50].
Volcano Crispy Eggplant 火山脆茄子 [S$16] looks a little different from the picture in the menu. Instead of fried fritters, the fried eggplants are topped with deep-fried whole enoki mushroom that spreads out like a fan. The crispness of the enoki mushroom pairs perfectly with the soft eggplant.
The speciality at any Cantonese restaurant is always the roasted meats. The Peking Duck 炭烧北京片皮鸭 [S$80], Signature Roast Duck 招牌明火烧鸭 [Half S$38, Whole S$68] and Crispy Roast Pork Belly 冰火烧腩仔 [S$20/30/40]. If you want a taste of everything, you can get the Double Selection 双拼 [S$24/36/48] or Triple Selection 三拼 [S$30/45/60].
Look at those huge juicy prawns in Golden Garlic Crackling Prawn 脆蒜炸大虾 [S$48]! The fried garlic fritters are so aromatic and crispy.
Twin Kai Lan 二度芥兰 [S$16/24/32] gives you two different ways of eating kailan, one poached and one dried and stir-fried. I still like the poached version better, the dried version seems better suited on noodles.
