De Golden Spoon Seafood is a zi char restaurant in Tiong Bahru that has been around for a long time, and judging from the packed restaurant and multiple outlets, they have certainly done well.
[Someone from De Classic Golden Spoon responded on Facebook page to say that De Classic Golden Spoon has ceased operation since 2013 and De Golden Spoon and Classic that are in operation are just knockoffs riding on the fame. The chef has moved to 57 Eng Hoon Street which is just 3-minute walk from the original outlet. I can’t verify the authenticity of this claim.]
Crispy Fried Shrimp Paste Chicken has been one of my favorite dishes since childhood and a crowd-pleaser if done well. However, the ones served here are way too salty and the chicken are dry.
Nothing remarkable about the Claypot Tofu with Seafood & Vegetable. Vegetables and squid in a fragrant gravy.
Granted, De Golden Spoon is a seafood restaurant and they are best known for their Crab Bee Hoon, but this is a zi char restaurant and the these two dishes are very common zi char dishes, so I am not very impressed. Having said that, I have every intention of trying their famous Crab Bee Hoon and I sure hope they do a much better job the next time.
