Fong Sheng Hao started off as a humble stall along Shilin MRT station in Taipei in 2013. Their charcoal toasts and milk tea became an instant hit and it was voted as one of the “Top Ten Breakfast in Taiwan”.
I was overjoyed when Fong Sheng Hao finally opened an outlet in Westgate because PLQ Mall and NEX are too far for me. Alas, the Westgate outlet was too popular with long queues outside the restaurant every day. This is partially a testament to the popularity of the restaurant and partially because the restaurant has only a seating capacity of 20.
A few days ago, I finally managed to visit on a day with slightly less people and managed to get a seat. Let’s see what’s so great about this Taiwanese toast cafe.

Fong Sheng Hao – The Food
The cold refreshing Cane Flavored Black Tea [S3.20] is slightly sweetened with sugar cane and served with two pieces of crunchy sugar-coated toast sticks. Perfect to satisfy the hunger pangs until the toasts come along.
I think it’s the toasted thick milk toast that makes Pork Egg & Cheese [S$7.30 – S$9.60 depending on your choice of drink] so tasty. I won’t mind having such a tasty toast for breakfast every morning.
The special pork patty in Taiwan Special Pork Patty [S$7.30 – S$9.60 depending on your choice of drink] is well-marinated and goes well with the egg in between warm toasted breads.
Each set comes with a drink. I was pleasantly surprised by the thick Milo that taste like melted chocolate. Hot chocolate will be a more appropriate name for this drink.
Besides toasts, Fong Sheng Hao also offers more filling dishes such as Taiwan Braised Pork Rice [S$7.90]. The meat has a good balance of fats and lean meat and perfectly braised. The addition of pickled cucumbers helps to cut through the greasiness.
