I was wondering around Clementi central when I chanced upon this old-school Chinese bakery called Hong Yit Bakery & Confectionery 豐益甜餅屋. I love these old-school bakeries but they are dwindling in numbers so finding one is akin to striking the lottery for me.
Hong Yit Bakery & Confectionery豐益甜餅屋 seems to be famous for their Walnut Cookie 桃酥 [S$1], Rock Biscuits 石头饼 [S$1] and Japanese Crisp 日本饼 [S$2] which every customer seems to be buying.
I bought a few of each to try and they remind me of the ones from my childhood. I especially like the Japanese Crisp with sugar crystals which gives it an additional crunch and sweetness.
You can also find Western-style cakes and log cakes in different flavors.
I also tried the Banana Cake [S$2 for 4 slices] which is not as good as Rocky Masters (Bugis).
You can find all the old-school Chinese pastries and snacks here such as tau sah piah and egg boro biscuit.
