I have been dying to try out I’m Kim Korean BBQ & Shabu Shabu ever since I learned that there is an outlet in Clementi. I know just had Japanese barbecue buffet at Yakiniku Ohji just 2 weeks ago, but one can never have too much barbecue or buffets.
I’m Kim Korean BBQ & Shabu Shabu is located on the second floor of Grantral Mall. This restaurant looks almost like a factory with rows of black tables and chairs. Each table is equipped with a pull-down cooking hood to suck away the smoke so you don’t leave the restaurant smelling like Korean barbecue.
Buffet Price
This is the buffet pricing that I took from their website. I find S$18.90 (Monday – Friday) and S$28.90 (Saturday – Sunday and Public Holidays) for buffet lunch and S$28.90 (Monday – Friday) and S$29.90 for buffet dinner to be reasonable pricing.
I’m Kim Korean BBQ & Shabu Shabu – The Food
All the buffet stations are located nex to the windows opposite the entrance to the restaurant.
First, you will find cooked foods. There was a mix of Western, Japanese and Korean dishes. I really liked the Korean Japchae, Tteobokki and Fried Chicken but not so much the Fries, Bacon Carbonara and Mushroom Soup.
Next, you will find the raw meat section. There are:
- Blackpepper Chicken
- Teriyaki Chicken
- Pork Belly
- Volcano Chicken
- Beef Bulgogi
- Marinated Pork
- Sliced Chicken
- Sliced Pork
The only thing I didn’t like was the sliced chicken which was tasteless. Volcano Chicken was really spicy, do eat with caution. Pork Belly was thick, which was perfect when eaten as ssam (Korean vegetable wrap). Beef Bulgogi was well-marinated and was surprisingly juicy and tender. Sliced Pork was perfect for making Bacon Wrapped Enoki.
There were also ingredients for shabu shabu, which was really the Japanese version of hotpot:
- Naruto Kamaboko
- Beancurd Skin
- Tau Pok
- Fishball with Fish Roe
- Seafood Tofu
- Luncheon Meat
- Lobster Ball
- Crabstick
At the Veggies & Buddies section, you can find
- Long Lettuce
- Xiao Bai Cai
- Enoki Mushroom
- Shimeji Mushroom
- Oyster Mushroom
- Fresh Lettuce
- Raw Eggs
- Onion Rings
Side dishes include Edamame, Korean Lettuce Salad (sangchu-geotjeori), Kimchi, Pickled Radish, Potato Salad, Corn, Fruit Salad and Coleslaw.
At the condiments counter, there were four sauces to choose from – Gome Sauce, Thai Chilli Sauce Samjang Sauce, Thousand Island – as well as Garlic , Japanese Leek, Green Chilli
You can find Sotanghon (vermicelli), Instant Noodles and Udon (in packets) on top of the condiments counter.
The buffet includes free-flow drinks – Calamansi Juice, Blackcurrent Juice, Ice Water and Fruit Punch.
For desserts there are Watermelon and Jelly Sago Dessert.
You can find all the menus here on their website.
Conclusion
The only drawback is the Clementi branch of I’m Kim Korean BBQ & Shabu Shabu does not have seafood, but otherwise all the ingredients and meats are very fresh. All in all, I think this Korean barbecue buffet is worth the price that I am paying for.
