Jeju Kitchen (Waterway Point) – Jeju Island Volcano Fried Rice

Jeju Kitchen - Restaurant FrontI discovered this Korean restaurant called Jeju Kitchen when my girlfriend and I were looking to have lunch at Waterway Point en route to Corney Island.

Jeju Kitchen - Menu 1Besides volcano fried rice that Jeju is apparently famous for, Jeju Kitchen also has has ramyeon/rabap (soup rice), army stew, galbi wok, jjigae (soups), noodles and appetizers and side dishes.

You can choose between kimchi or bolgogi rice for your volcano fried rice. There are 9 options to choose from, depending on your choice of meat or seafood.

Jeju Kitchen - Pork Volcano Fried Rice

If you are getting the Pork Volcano Fried Rice [S$12.80 with cheese/s$12.80 without cheese), DO NOT get the bolgogi fried rice. The pork is already marinated in bolgogi sauce, if you order bolgogi fried rice, it will be much too sweet.

A good plate of kimchi fried rice is a true test of the chef’s skills, Jeju Kitchen’s kimchi fried rice is a little too wet.

The pork slices on the other hand are well-marinated and tastes superb.

Jeju Kitchen - Signature Pork Chopper Volcano Fried RiceI had high expectations for Signature Pork Chopper Volcano Fried Rice [S$26.80 with cheese/S$24.80 without cheese] but I was sorely disappointed.

The dish looks impressive with a whole pork chop lying on top of a mountain of kimchi fried rice. However, under the crispy coating, the pork inside is tasteless and hard.

Isn’t volcano fried rice supposed to have cheese flowing down the side of the mountain (of fried rice)? I can hardly taste the cheese which is cooked together with the eggs at the base of the volcano fried rice.

Jeju Kitchen - Mango Yogurt Ice BlendedNothing special about the Mango Yogurt Ice Blended [S$6.80], it reminds me a little of the Indian mango lassi. It has just the right amount of sweetness.

My girlfriend and I were in a rush so we did not have the time to try the other Korean dishes available, but the Signature Pork Chopper Volcano Fried Rice is definitely not worth it.
