Paik’s Bibim (CityLink Mall)

I spotted Paik’s Bibimbap when I went to try out Idaten Udon, which was just beside it. I have seen this Korean restaurant at the basement of Jem and I have been meaning to give it a try, but I never got the chance, until now. 

Paik’s Bibim serves modernized version of the classic Korean dish Bibimbap in a casual and complementary setting. There are the classic options such as Beef Bulgogi and Pork Bibimbap; and there are the more special ones like Woosamgyup Bibimbap. Vegetarian will enjoy the marinated Tofu Bibimbap.

I wanted to try something different so I ordered Seafood Bibimbap. Marinated squid, cuttlefish and prawns, together with huge bean sprouts, sliced carrots and lettuce sit on top of fragrant rice. Mix in hot pepper paste “gochujang”if you fancy something spicy, but I personally feel that it is perfect as it is. The vegetables are very fresh and the giant bean sprouts has a very satisfying crunch. The seafoods are well-marinated and cooked just right.

I couldn’t resist ordering a serving of the Spicy Korean Rice Cakes. It’s pretty much the same everywhere, but I love the firmness of the rice cakes here. It goes exceedingly well with bibimbaps.

I seldom drink canned drinks nowadays thanks to the huge amount of sugar they contain, but I knew I was going to need a cold drink when I am eating bibimbap and spicy Korean rice cakes and I am in a Korean restaurant so I decided to get a Korean drink, Lotte Grape Juice. The chilled sweet drink tasted heavenly when paired with the spicy rice cakes. There are even bits of roundish pulp which tasted exactly like grape! 

If Idaten Udon is a Japanese fast food restaurant that specializes in udon, then Paik’s Bibim is a Korean fast food restaurant specializing in bibimbaps. Prices are reasonable, the staff are friendly and the food are delicious yet healthy, I can see no reason not to give this Korean restaurant a try.
