I recently had one of the best corndog at River Hongbao 2023 and it kickstarted an insatiable craving for Korean street food. I know just the place – POCHA! Korean Street Food Dining opened not long ago in JEM.
POCHA! Korean Street Food Dining takes inspiration from pojangmacha, colorful Korean street stalls that come to life when night falls.
The menu features the various snacks you can find at these pojangmacha.
Decor
The fairy lights across the ceiling does remind me of Korean street stalls. The life-size paintings on the walls makes me feel as if I am really seating in a pochangmacha.
The Food
Tteobokki [S$10.90] is too common, I decided to skip that and go for Chunky Tteok [S$18.90]. The mozzarella cheese on top gives the tteobokki a nice cheesy flavor. The fried chicken pieces makes this dish even more substantial.
I have a thing for Eomuk (Korean fish cakes) [S$8.90] which was why I made a special trip to the now-closed Samjin Amook. There’s something weirdly addictive about the Korean flat fishcake on skewers.
Since corndog inspired me to visit this restaurant, I have to get the Corndog [S$6.90]. The mozzarella cheese inside is delightfully gooey while the outside is crispy. Drizzled with ketchup and mayonnaise, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Kimchi Mandu [S$6.90] is another popular snack at Korean roadside stalls. They are like the Chinese dumplings but packed with kimchi and pork filling and fried till crispy.
