This is my second visit to Sumiya (I went there by myself once before) and this time we will be trying out the lunch sets.
This is the Kaisen Bara Don Set that I had the last time. Assorted marinated sashimi are piled on top of fragrant Japanese rice. You can also dip the sashimi with the sesame sauce and truffle sauce provided.
Sashimi Mori Set presents more than 10 pieces of freshly-sliced sashimi, presented on a wooden board with ascending wooden steps. The sashimi is thicker than many other places and each bite brings you one step closer to gastronomic heaven.
Those who prefer something cooked can opt for Tempura Ju Set where lightly-battered vegetables and seafood are fried till a beautiful golden colour and served on top of fragrant Japanese rice.
If you are more adventurous, you can try Today’s Dried Air-Flown Fish Genshiyaki Set. Genshiyaki is an old traditional method of using two kinds of charcoals and elaborate technique of grilling fish. The grilling has sealed in the juice in the fish, giving it a tender bite and crispy skin. Do finish your fish quickly as the meat turns rather rubbery when it is dry.
In addition to the lunch sets, you can opt to add on one of the following: Salmon Roe Topping, Kanpachi (Amberjack) and Salmon Sashimi, Plain Chawanmushi or Fresh Laver Chawanmushi for an even more fulfilling lunch.
Fresh fruit is typically served, but you can top of an extra $3 for Cream Daifuku Mochi of the Day. This is the new pumpkin flavour, which tastes great with just a hint of pumpkin sweetness.
There are 11 options to choose from and the lunch set menu changes regularly, making Sumiya a great place to enjoy a good Japanese meal for lunch without burning a hole in your pocket.
