The Coffee Academics – For The Coffee Connoisseur

The Coffee Academics’s main selling point which is their speciality coffee is lost on me since I don’t drink coffee. In fact, it was even voted one of the “10 Best Coffee Places in Singapore”.

The Coffee Academics - Restaurant FrontThe outlet in Scotts Square is their flagship store. I only came here because Wild Honey was full and there was a 45-minute wait. Since The Coffee Academics also serves breakfast, I decided to have my brunch here instead.

The Food

I don’t drink coffee so I can’t critique the coffee but the breakfasts here are pretty on-point.

Here’s the link to the menu in case you want to know what I’m eating.

The Coffee Academics - Chocolate CocoaFor non-coffee drinkers like me, the only thing I can get is Chocolate Cocoa [Hot S$5.90, Cold S$7]. This is pure 75% dark ‘mana’ chocolate from Philippines, with your choice of solvent. I have lactose-intolerance  and I am so thankful that they have the option of oat milk. This cup of hot chocolate is rich and frothy.

The Coffee Academics - The Academics BreakfastDoesn’t The Academics Breakfast [S$26] look absolutely glorious? Besides the usual sautéed mushrooms, crispy bacon, baked beans and grilled tomato, there is also pork sausage. There is pesto sauce on sourdough bread and even sliced truffle on the scrambled eggs. I like the addition of grilled halloumi cheese and the crispy garden salad.

The Coffee Academics - Salted Egg Sausage CarbonaraPasta is a good choice anytime, especially one as delicious as Salted Egg Sausage Carbonara [S$18]. I love how the creamy salted egg sauce generously coats every strand of pasta. The herbs sausages are nice but the pecorino cheese shavings are what gives the extra dose of creaminess.

The Coffee Academics - Academics Coffee ChurrosI find Academics Coffee Churros [S$17] a tad too sweet for my liking. The churros are bite-size and comes with their homemade gelato and  70% chocolate fudge dipping sauce.

The Coffee Academics - CruffinYou can also order freshly-baked pastries such as cruffin (a hybrid of croissant and muffin) and croissants at the front of the restaurant.

My Verdict

The Coffee Academics is a good alternative to Wild Honey for brunch. There are multiple outlets in Singapore. The coffee is supposed to be some of the best.
